FAQs
Hemp CBD Oil, Capsules & Bites
Why are ElleVance products better than others?
Our favourite question! Firstly, because we have science and years of experience behind our product. We have spent years determining the best hemp plant cultivars and there is considerable university-led clinical research conducted with our extract, so that you can be confident we know the precise amount of our product to take each day. We have stringent product quality control from the farm to your doorstep, and every product is tested at independent laboratories to ensure purity and consistency. Lastly, our product is concentrated – you get many more ‘mgs per mL’, and you also get so much more than just CBD on its own. ElleVance provides a COMPLETE cannabinoid and terpene profile that’s rich in CBD and CBDA.
What is a complete cannabinoid and terpene profile?
The hemp plant naturally contains many compounds called phytocannabinoids. Over 200 have been identified to-date by scientists, which each can have differing effects on our body’s natural endocannabinoid system. Hemp plants also produce a range of terpene molecules that also have a range of, often synergistic, benefits for the body. A more complete profile (or combination) of these molecules will increase the number of different biological pathways impacted and so you can expect this to give the same or better response at lower quantities.
What are cannabinoids and how do they work?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors found in the body of most animals, including humans.
Phytocannabinoids are members of this chemical group found in the hemp plant. Scientists have identified more than 100 phytocannabinoids; however, read more…
What is the difference between CBD and CBDA?
In brief:
• CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the natural form of CBD made by the hemp plant. The hemp plant itself doesn’t contain much CBD.
• When heated, CDBA becomes CBD (cannabidiol), and the extraction process often involves high pressure and heat.
Scientists have shown that full-spectrum products containing not just CBD, but also other cannabinoids and terpenes are more effective than CBD isolates. The reason for this improved response is read more…
What are the best CBD products?
CBD products vary significantly and you can not assume that one works as well as the next. There are two types of products on the market today read more…
How do you compare the potency of different CBD products?
It can be unclear how to compare how much active ingredient is in different CBD products. After all, we are all looking for value for money, and we want to know the amount we are buying per £.
All products should tell you how many milligrams (mg) of active cannabinoids they contain, preferably both per mL and per bottle. Then you can then divide the price by this to get the £/mg of product and to gauge the strength of the product.
But beware, one CBD product does not have the same effect as the next due to read more…
What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS)?
All animals, including humans, have a collection of natural biological pathways in their bodies called the endocannabinoid system. Scientists are finding out new wonders about this system every day. We know that there are several receptor molecules (including the CB1 and CB2 receptors) located throughout the body and brain, that can turn up or down different biological functions when they interact with endocannabinoids – other molecules that the body naturally makes. The body adjusts the amount of these endocannabinoids in circulation to modulate functions as diverse as sensation and inflammation, mood, sleep and appetite. Scientists have shown the endocannabinoid system provides a critical way the body can keep itself in balance – a process called homeostasis
What is the entourage effect?
Over time, it has become clear to scientists that different cannabinoids and terpenes have different and often synergistic effects on different biological pathways in the body, including the endocannabinoid system. For example, CBD is known to modulate certain pathways, but that is only a part of the answer. So in the 1990s’, scientists introduced the concept of the ‘entourage effect’ to explain how the combination of cannabinoids and terpenes found in a broad-spectrum extract from the hemp plant can have a multitude of different effects – on many more cellular components of the body and brain than a single isolated cannabinoid like CBD.
Can you get high on a hemp or CBD products?
No. To be sold legally, hemp and CBD products must contain ‘non-detectable’ levels of THC. THC (which stands for Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), is the chemical that causes the psychoactive effect of feeling high.
CBD (cannabidiol), on the other hand, is non-psychoactive. There are many different strains of the Cannabis Sativa plant and hemp is chosen specifically for its elevated levels of CBD and low levels of other cannabinoids. Read more…
How do you get high quality hemp?
The quality of a hemp plant for use as a supplement all starts with having a high-quality cultivar that produces an attractive set of biologically active compounds. A high-quality hemp cultivar will have been bred over many years to produce the high levels of CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids required. It will also produce a range of beneficial terpenes. These terpenes give the hemp its characteristic ‘hempy’ smell and taste – something you should seek out when looking for in a high-quality product. The best hemp will be cloned and grown from the same cultivar harvest after harvest, to maintain the quality of the finished product year after year.
The plants should be grown in a pure and consistent environment, preferably at the same farm location. It’s important to know changes in the farming environment do not affect the profile of cannabinoids and terpenes. We also want to ensure the absence of contaminants, such as heavy metals and pesticides in the plant material. All of which should be confirmed by laboratory testing at every stage in the farming and production process.
Where do ElleVance products come from?
Our products are derived from the same hemp extract as used by ElleVet Sciences – one of the leading hemp companies in the US today. Our all-natural hemp is grown at our pesticide-free farm in Colorado, and the products are made in the USA. We complete the production process at our facility in Devon.
Are ElleVance products organic and vegan?
Our hemp is grown without pesticides, and we blend with organic sesame seed oil. Our capsules are made with a vegan outer case.
I’m concerned about the hemp taste, which product should I buy?
Cannabinoids like CBD do not taste or smell. But terpenes do – and ElleVance is rich in the most important terpenes that are crucial to its effectiveness. This gives our products their ‘hempy’ flavour that people describe as peppery or earthy. Our years of experience have proven that our terpenes are needed to give you COMPLETE support. If you are concerned about the taste, then we recommend you buy our ElleVance Complete Plus capsules.
When should I buy ElleVance Active Bites
Our peanut flavoured hemp Bites are made from our whole-plant extract in sesame oil, with added glucosamine and chondroitin, all blended into a low-calorie soft biscuit. Our studies have demonstrated that this formulation is absorbed quickly to help with long term mobility support. Our Bites are powerful, but the taste is not for everyone, and we recommend you try ElleVance Complete Plus capsules if this is a concern.
How much CBD is in ElleVance hemp products?
ElleVance uses its high potency hemp extract to make a range of products. For example, our oil has 70mg/mL of total cannabinoids, and CBD and CBDA make up approximately 95% of this. From experience with many thousands of customers, we are confident that we have the dosing right. For more detailed information, please refer to our Products section.
How long does it typically take for ElleVance to work?
ElleVance goes to work quickly. For acute episodes, customers have seen rapid benefits. But for optimum long-term support, many customers have found that 48 hours to a week is a good rule of thumb. In some cases, the dose can be adjusted to improve response. Please call ElleVance customer support if you have questions (go to Contact).
Can I give CBD oil to my pet?
At present these are no authorised veterinary CBD products available in the UK. Therefore, to maintain the availability of CBD to animal owners, Veterinarians may prescribe CBD in accordance with the Veterinary Medicines Regulations under the prescribing cascade. This means that in the absence of an authorised veterinary medicinal product, legally obtained human CBD products are the most likely source of CBD for pets.
To comply with the requirements of the Veterinary Medicines Regulations, pets can only be given a CBD product if prescribed and administered under veterinary guidance. CBD pet products cannot be advertised and sold without a marketing authorisation in the UK.
Dosing
How much should I use?
Please refer to the dosing guidelines shown in the Products section and on the product label. Our dosing recommendations are based on the weight of the recipient, and we target an optimum dose of 2mg/Kg for the first week (Loading Dose) and 1mg/Kg for maintenance after that.
Can I take a higher dose if needed?
Yes, some users find remaining on the higher first week loading dose gives them the ongoing support they need. Others may find that they need a boost before/after a big day – and in these cases, you can double the dose for a short period.
Why do you recommend a higher dose in the first week?
This is called a loading dose. We have found that this higher dose speeds up the bodies response by rapidly increasing the levels in the body. For many customers, it is possible to then lower the dose and maintain the same effectiveness, so your product will last as long as possible.
What if I miss a dose?
Don’t worry, resume as soon as possible. We recommend twice a day dosing because the body naturally breaks down CBD over a few hours and so twice a day dosing is necessary to maintain the right levels needed for support over time.
Can I get a CBD product from my veterinarian?
There are no CBD products currently registered as veterinary medicines in the UK. In this instance, your veterinarian can apply a provision in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations that allows them to non-licensed products if that is in your pets’ best interest read more…
What testing is done to ensure the quality of ElleVance products?
We believe in comprehensive testing of our product at all stages of production and for the finished product. We test to ensure every product has the required profile of cannabinoids and terpenes. We also test the purity of all our products to confirm there are no contaminants such as pesticides or heavy metals. Our products are all tested at accredited third party laboratories.
What about allergies and food sensitivities?
All our hemp extracts are blended with sesame oil to allow us to provide the same potency with every product. Our products are also manufactured at a facility that also processes peanuts. Our simplest products are ElleVance Complete hemp oil and ElleVance Complete Plus capsules. If allergies or food sensitivity is a concern, we would recommend either of these products rather than our peanut flavoured ElleVance Hemp Bites. For more information about our ingredients, please refer to the Products page or product label.
