What Are Cannabinoids And How Do They Work?
What are Cannabinoids and how do they Work?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors found in the body of most animals, including humans.
Phytocannabinoids are members of this chemical group found in the hemp plant. Scientists have identified more than 100 phytocannabinoids; however, cannabidiol (CBD) remains one of the most extensively studied.
Our bodies create their own cannabinoids (known as endocannabinoids).
These chemicals, like CBD, act in what is known as the endocannabinoid system. Taking CBD can help to support the functions of the endocannabinoid system.
Hemp-based phytocannabinoids like CBD have even been shown to stimulate the body to ramp up its endocannabinoid system
Recap:
Cannabinoids = a class of chemical compounds that interact with the cannabinoid receptors in our bodies.
Phytocannabinoids = Cannabinoids naturally occurring in plants (notably hemp).
Endocannabinoids = Cannabinoids naturally produced in the body of most animals, including humans.
What is the Endocannabiniod System?
The Endocannabinoid System
The body’s endocannabinoid system is a complex arrangement that modulates how our bodies respond to situations such as stress, anxiety and pain. When we experience an unbalanced response to one of these situations, the endocannabinoid is responsible for softening the reaction and bringing our bodies back into equilibrium.
The endocannabinoids are mediators or messengers that are incredibly efficient in helping to regulate a wide range of responses. For example, if we feel pain or stress, our body will produce endocannabinoids to help to lower stress and anxiety or pain levels. This system is incredibly important in regulating our body’s balance.
How Does CBD Help?
External sources of cannabinoids like CBD stimulate the endocannabinoid system and help it to be more productive.
When it comes to chronic pain, for example, CBD helps to reduce the “pain signal” coming up to the brain and hence have a pain-relieving effect. This mechanism is different from that of the traditional pain killers like paracetamol or ibuprofen, which is why many users report a reduction in their pain.
How are CBD Products Produced?
At ElleVance, we grow our proprietary hemp strain in Colorado, USA. We use a highly sophisticated extraction method to extract all the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids in the plant. This procedure results in the highly concentrated, full-spectrum and contaminant-free extract that we then use as the base for our products. You can read more about our quality here.
